About
A small editorial collective.
Kindling started in a borrowed office in Lisbon in 2024, when four friends realised they were forwarding the same articles to each other every weekend. We thought: what if a few hundred more people had this conversation, every Sunday?
How an issue gets made
Each editor reads widely all week — print magazines, journals, the better corners of the internet, books in translation. On Wednesday we meet for ninety minutes and argue. By Thursday we’ve picked five. Friday we draft the introductions. Saturday we proofread. Sunday morning, it’s in your inbox.
We pay every writer we link to whose work isn’t already free, even though most are. It comes out of our subscription revenue, not advertising. We don’t take advertising.
What we won’t do
- Send you anything other than the Sunday digest.
- Track which links you open. We don’t want to know.
- Sell, share, or rent your email address. Ever.
- Use AI to write or pick the issues. Humans, all the way down.
